The Textiles element of our DT curriculum is all about designing and making different products with materials, and understanding how to shape and join pieces of fabric, strengthen them and add embellishments. Children have wide opportunities to explore different fabrics, textile products and learn how to sew. Sewing offers the opportunity to learn some real-life skills, so that in future our pupils will know how to mend and make clothes, sew on a button, make simple repairs and even recycle materials into another product. We often find that some of our children are very frustrated with the process of learning to sew, but the sense of achievement when they have kept on trying and really make progress is absolutely wonderful!!
