Our creative and engaging Mathematics curriculum aims to maximise the development of every child’s ability and academic achievement. We want children to make rich connections across mathematical ideas to develop fluency, mathematical reasoning and competence in solving increasingly sophisticated problems. Our children need to develop the necessary skills to make them “deep thinkers” acquiring skills and knowledge that can be transferred and applied in different contexts.
Through our teaching of Maths we aim to equip children with the knowledge that Maths is essential to everyday life, critical to science, technology and engineering, and necessary for financial literacy and most forms of employment. Maths is the foundation for understanding the world and we want our children to know the purpose behind their learning and to apply their knowledge to their everyday lives.
We teach maths through the Lancashire Mathematics Scheme and are in the process of transitioning over to Red Rose Maths. Currently Years 1 to 5 follow the Red Rose Mastery Scheme with Year 6 transitioning in 2024/25.
We also embrace technology within the teaching of maths and use resources such as Times Table Rockstars, MyMaths and Learning by Questions.
