The school educates children in a context in which they experience and are given an understanding of the Christian faith, as received and practised in the Church of England.
To provide a basic knowledge of the content and relevance of the Christian faith by promoting Christian values in the school as shown by the life and teaching of Jesus Christ and to encourage within the children a sense of decency, commitment, self-reliance, responsibility, respect for others and a positive self-image.
To nurture and develop each child as a unique individual, to his or her full potential by educating the child in order to acquire the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values which will enable them to make a positive contribution to the society and the environment in which they live.
To promote interaction between home, school, church and community by making prayer and worship real experiences, which will contribute successfully to the promotion of faith in the wider community.
Our Christian values, which derive from the life and teaching of Jesus, underpin every aspect of school life at Saint Laurence. We aim to model and promote these values in all that we do; these values are Love, Justice, Respect, Forgiveness, Hope and Excellence.
We believe that the greatest of these values is love.
“There is no commandment greater…” (Mark 12:31)
Love is simply putting others before ourselves.
Justice is about fairness and doing right by others. So we seek to build children who not only believe in justice but who will be just in their actions.
Respect forms the basis of our relationships with each other. The principles of respecting oneself are applied in equal measure towards others.
Hope relates to the certainty of what we will have in the future, based on what we learn now.
Understanding that we all fail at times and deserve the chance to put things right.
Doing our best in all that we do.
